Overview

This course is the core component in precision measurement and designing products. Thus, it plays a vital role in preparing students for their final projects as well as equipped them with the basic background of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing which they can apply at work in various areas of engineering aspects. Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is slowly taking over the place of the common coordinate tolerancing nowadays and as such it becomes an important tool in producing good design parts and improving communication. Students should be kept abreast with these current needs.

Course Learning Outcomes:

ØTo identify the basic symbols and characteristics of GDT based on ASME 714.5 M:1994 ØTo interpret basic concepts and principles of GDT based on ASME Y14.5 M:1994 ØTo recognize GDT characteristics, symbols and terms used based on ASME Y14.5 M:1994 ØTo apply the basic concepts and principles of GDT in designing, manufacturing and quality control systems

Trainer’s Information

Mohamad El Zayyat Bin Mohd Salleh is a certified PSMB trainer. Currently, he is attached to German-Malaysian Institute as Senior Technical Training Officer. Eleven (11) years’ experience in teaching and training; and five (5) years of experience in the manufacturing industry such as electric/electronics, automotive and semiconductor as Design Engineer, Development Engineer, Die Designer and Jigs & Fixtures Designer respectively.

Professionally, he is registered as Graduate Engineer with Board of Engineers (BEM), Malaysia. Membership number: GE54982R.

Academic qualification:

- Doctorate of Philosophy from Universiti Teknologi Mara, Malaysia. (On going)

Field of research: Surface engineering, Mechanical Engineering.

Research title: Surface integrity development of 316L austenitic stainless steel.

- MSc. Product Design Innovation from Aston University, UK. (2014)

- B.Eng. Manufacturing (Hons) from University Malaya, Malaysia. (2003)

- Industrial Diploma in Tool Design from German-Malaysian Institute, Malaysia. (1997)
