INTRODUCTION TO MEASUREMENT UNCERTAINTY

INTRODUCTION FOR INTRODUCTION TO MEASUREMENT UNCERTAINTY
Measurement uncertainty describes a region about an observed value of a physical quantity which is likely to enclose the true value of that quantity. Reporting measurement uncertainty is compulsory for ISO/IEC 17025 accredited calibration and testing laboratories. This will also help the lab to further decide on decision rule requirements when applied by the labs to their respective results or when required by the customer or when the lab outsourced their measurement to an external lab.
This training module is designed based on the Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement (GEUM) document published by BIPM. Participants are guided through a series of hands on practice, conduct experiments, collect data and perform calculation, learning from the simplest example of expressing uncertainty to complex multiple unit models.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the end of the INTRODUCTION TO MEASUREMENT UNCERTAINTY course, the participants will be able to :
- Understand the concept of measurement uncertainty and its application.
- Apply the knowledge of measurement uncertainty in testing and calibration laboratories measurements
